There are people in companies whose sole purpose is to manage the supply chain. These are called “supply chain managers”. Generally, supply chain managers in a company are responsible for:
– Formulating a strategy for developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and holding those suppliers accountable.
– Identifying, sourcing, negotiating and procuring a service or good essential to the company’s ongoing operations.
– Leveraging technology and procedures to facilitate the procurement process.
– Developing and structuring a logistics strategy to effectively manage the supply chain end-to-end.
